Overview
Atela is a local-first task manager with optional cloud sync. Your data is stored on your device and, when you sign in, is also transmitted to and stored on our servers to enable sync and collaboration features.
What We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account, we store your email address, display name, avatar color, and preferences. If you use Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google, we receive a provider-specific identifier — we never receive or store your password for these services.
Task Data
When you use sync features, the following data is transmitted to and stored on our servers:
- Lists, items, subtasks, sections, tags, and their metadata
- Comments and reactions on items
- File attachments (uploaded to secure cloud storage)
- Activity events (item completions, edits, assignments)
- Reminders and recurrence rules
- Notification preferences
Push Notification Tokens
If you enable push notifications, your device token is stored on our servers to deliver alerts for reminders, mentions, comments, and other events. You can disable notifications at any time in Settings.
Optional Features
- Calendar Sync — When enabled, calendar data is synced to coordinate scheduling.
- Email-to-Task — A unique inbound email address is created for your account to convert emails into tasks.
- Location Reminders — When enabled, location data is used locally on your device to trigger reminders. Location data is not transmitted to our servers.
What We Don't Collect
- No third-party analytics or tracking services
- No advertising identifiers
- No usage telemetry
- No sale of data to third parties
How We Store Your Data
On Your Device
All data is stored locally using SwiftData. The app functions fully offline and syncs changes when connectivity is restored.
On Our Servers
When you sign in, your data is stored on our servers to enable sync and collaboration. Data is stored in a PostgreSQL database with Redis caching. Servers are hosted in secure data centers.
File Attachments
File attachments are stored in encrypted cloud storage, separate from your account data.
Data Security
- Transport — All communication between the app and our servers is encrypted using TLS with certificate pinning.
- Token Storage — Authentication tokens are hashed before storage.
- Cloud Storage — File attachments are stored in encrypted cloud storage.
Your Rights
- Access — You can view all your data within the app at any time.
- Export — You can export your data through the app.
- Delete — You can delete your account at any time through Settings > Account > Delete Account. This removes your data from both the server and local device.
- Clear Local Data — You can clear local data only through Settings > Data & Privacy > Clear Local Data without deleting your server account.
Third-Party Services
Atela integrates only with the following services:
- Sign in with Apple — for authentication
- Sign in with Google — for authentication
- Apple Push Notification Service (APNs) — for delivering notifications
Children's Privacy
Atela does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as new features are added. Material changes will be communicated through the app. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
